It includes the shipping industry, such as carriers and shipowners, the port industry, such as port authorities and terminal operators, the management and oversight of cargo and ancillary activities, such as finance, insurance, and customs.
MARA 416 – Port Operations, Administration and Economics
Concepts of the port and methods of intermodal transfer; port functions divided and analyzed along business lines – economics, management, finance, accounting, and marketing; cost studies.
MARA 489 – Introduction to the Cruise Industry
The cruise industry is a dynamic segment of tourism, with ships acting as floating hotels and theme parks. It involves local destinations accessible through the cruise port and the onboard amenities the cruise ship offers. The cruise industry combines maritime transport, terminal operations, travel, and hospitality services to facilitate leisure activities through carefully selected itineraries and onboard amenities. This course introduces students to the business foundations and dynamics of the cruise industry, including cruise ships and cruise ports.
MARA 616 – Management of Port Facilities and Infrastructure
Challenges associated with the design, management, and operation of port facilities, including the management of buildings, piers, and associated structures, and connecting waterways. Particular attention is paid to management and infrastructure issues related to port terminals, such as containers, bulk, breakbulk, and cruises.
